Buffy Recreation Episode 17

Happy Halloween everyone! The only spooky thing about this episode is the poltergeist in my recording device that made me lose last week's recording! This week Flo and Carra encounter terrible technical difficulties as they try to discuss Buffy the Vampire Slayer S2E5 "Reptile Boy" and Parks and Recreation S2E11 "Tom's Divorce."  I get a pep talk from my cat, Flo reads aloud the Wikipedia entry on betel nuts, and we discuss vampire biology, Flo's city hall job, New Zealand, and the hideous roots of capitalism and patriarchy. There are no visual aids this week.

"Love makes you do the wacky," Buffy says, announcing the theme...kind of?...of Buffy the Vampire Slayer S2E2 "Some Assembly Required" and Parks and Recreation S2E8 "Ron and Tammy."  I'm not sure love, at least in its romantic sense, is the word to describe most of the ways people relate to each other in these episodes this week.  On this misogyny-sodden news week during which the country tries to pretend to be shocked by Trump's casual sexism, please enjoy how geeky locker pin-up collages and a Frankenstein reboot literalize the objectification of women and how Ron and Tammy turn all gender roles on their head. Flo and Carra discuss the biology of reanimated zombie flesh, razorback pigs, the sadness of patriarchy and the perfection of Megan Mullally.
